WE HAD THE CRAZIEST HAND! Thank you for the game! Please make more!
(1 edit)

this game is so much fun lmfao heres a funny infinite combo i found:

basic version is just a super thin deck with hand's free, surgery, meditate, and push it+. once you enable push it+ and have the other three cards in your hand at once (and no other remaining cards in your draw pile), it begins.....

1. push it+ gives 2 stamina per injury

2. HF gives two cards, injures arm (+2 stamina)

3. meditate gives two cards AND two strength (-1 stamina)

4. surgery heals arm, re-enabling HF (-1 stamina)

the constant deck shuffling means if you get your deck thin enough you just constantly get these three cards back in your hand, with a net 0 stamina cost and steady increase to your strength.

this combo pairs very well with any kettlebell builds cause the strength buff applies to each kettlebell individually, which.. scales really fast lol. i attached a photo of my lovely hunk and his ideal make body

anyway this game is fire i wish there was a mac build but also building for mac sucks, so valid. maybe hot take, but i think that the AI art kinda works well in this case because the aesthetic of this kind of generated art i think lends itself to this game thats already so visually jarring and inhuman (in a good way lol). im an artist and i fully agree with the ethical qualms of using generated art in most cases, but it does objectively have an aesthetic of its own and i think it does kinda fit in this case.

my progress erased :-(

You have a very solid enjoyable game loop. I wasn't sure what to expect but you hit a niche where the cards make sense for the actions on the screen and it's a unique experience that I wouldn't have in another game. Keep making games, just gg's mate. I just saw the thing about the AI art as an update. I don't really know how I feel about it but as a game dev I just can see that you as a game dev are really good at finding the fun in your games and knowing how hard that process is, just good job at creating an enjoyable game loop that challenged me in ways I didn't expect.

I don't know what I was expecting when I saw this game, but I have to tell you, I enjoyed my time here lol. A card game about body building is a wild thing to say, but it was more fun than you might think.

why is everyone hating on ai art, if I knew how to make a game I would use it too, not because I advocate everything as ai, but bc I'm insecure about my bad drawing. i get that art is better when done by hand, but quit acting like this doesn't get the point across. its a goofy game, lets be goofy.

Because AI steals from artists, plain and simple. It is unacceptable to use. There's a reason "programmer art" is a just a handwave for early dev games- nobody reasonable expects them to look polished

If you can rig a model, you can make a scene, and if you can make a scene you can make an illustration for your card.

Even then, there's loads of free and paid assets even if you want a quick and easy solution that's positive for both you and the source site.

I agree that AI art often takes from artists’ work, which is valid. However, this isn't the case here. The game developer has stated that they can't spend money to commission art at this stage of development, I assume their focus is on gameplay and the unique style they want to create. They’re choosing AI-generated art because it allows them to maintain that unique style while keeping their costs manageable.

Saying, 'If you can rig a model, you can make a scene, and if you can make a scene, you can make an illustration for your card' oversimplifies the process. It's like saying, 'If you can drive a car, you can drive a bus, and if you can drive a bus, you can drive a truck.' In reality, each of those tasks requires different skills, time, and experience. Creating art for a game, especially when trying to maintain a unique style and updates, is a hard thing that can't always be replaced by an asset.

While free or paid assets are an option, they often don’t offer the flexibility or originality that a developer might need to create something distinct. AI art, while imperfect, can provide a compromise in this situation

AI doesn't steal from artists. And art is not an original form of expression anyway, its just rehashed ideas with small innovations based on steeped heritage of those before.

Or go and tell me how every anime character is its own completely unique design completely original, without inspiration or technique drawn from those before.

Artists are just getting mad, because AI will eventually make a large part of the normal workflow for them redundant, as its already doing for UX designers, because that is essentially "busy work".

The answers is to stop pretending that your hobbies or passions can be used as a replacement for a steady job, as for most people it can't.  And hobbies and passions remain for free time, and not their day job.

Copyright massively hinders creativity and free expression, and people who are against AI are basically just being pro-publisher pro hardcore copyright restrictions, where companies can law fair creators into oblivion.

2 year ago you were against ai, what changed?

(-1)

I was never against AI?

Hi Stag The problem with AI generated content is that it is low effort content and does not showcase your ability nor improve your ability through process learning, that is because AI generated content is not your work, even if it is a model trained on your work. So, it actually misses the point of what the jam is all about, which is improving and showcasing. It is the same reason that AI generated content (prompt based) does not garner copyright attribution regardless of the source material used in its data sets. At best you might claim it created a derivative work based on the prompt itself, but the argument is very poor.  Non-prompt based AI is mostly QOL stuff, for example smoothing algo, or animation automation (you specify certain frames and in fills in the gaps), and have been long in use for yearas prior to this every becoming a thing.

You don't need artist consent to train an AI off of their work as the AI does not do anything to breach copyright. However, if the AI produces something far too similar to their work that in and of itself could constitute a breach, but this doesn't preclude all AI generated assets from said data training.  So, there is nothing invalid from a creator using prompt based AI. However, prompt based AI is something I believe does not follow the spirit of the jam. Hence my wish/suggestion that all prompt based AI was banned.

Just use free assets which are not only free, not only better in quality but also better as you don't worry about having to "own" the art. It just feels distracting when the art feels like its been stolen.

(+2)(-2)

But what if the free assets don’t include a guy in a suit with facial hair holding a bottle of anti-fungal lotion? With free assets, you don’t actually own them—you just use them. Same goes for AI art—at least in the U.S., no one holds the copyright. If you've ever scrolled through roguelikes on Itch for hours, you know how tiring it gets seeing the same free assets over and over. free assets tend to show the difference between a well-worked-on game and somebody's practice code. This game is a great card game that plans on making art, but they simply don't seem to have the time, and or the money.

I understand it make take some time, but some of the most popular indie games end up having very simplistic art which took very little time to make, as long as the general idea gets a crossed and the game doesn't focus on art or animation it doesn't need to even be good. Also if someone is using ai art for their game I would also assume it would be just practice code. Now all of this is pointless to argue about as the dev will change this before the game releases so theres that.

Masterpiece, keep going

Finally finished all decks, great game

From the runs I've done, Stamina is the way to go, as you get to play more cards which increase your chance of pulling more stamina cards to keep doing it again, ofc you want to have cards to lower fatigue and injured muscles as well.

This rules.

Awesome. I came here from Rarran's vid and had a ton of fun with it, hyped for the full release on Steam.
