SPECIMEN
A downloadable game
SPECIMEN is a first-person, co-op horror game about capturing an alien.
The alien hides among cases (pictured below). As you remove cases, the alien has fewer hiding places and becomes more dangerous.
GAMEPLAY
You are a scientist tasked with capturing a dangerous specimen.
- Figure out where the specimen is so that you can capture it.
- Remove cases so that it has fewer places to hide.
- Once you suspect you've found its' hiding spot: use the BioVac to capture it.
STORY
You’ve docked at an abandoned space station, as part of a team of scientists tasked with capturing a SPECIMEN lurking somewhere on board. Your mission: find it and bring it back—no matter the cost.
CO-OP
Utilize proximity voice chat to communicate with your fellow scientists as you explore the space station together.
Stay close to coordinate your efforts, or split up to cover more ground. Together, you’ll need to figure out where the specimen is hiding, plan your moves, and ultimately capture it.
Alternatively go solo (singleplayer) and retrieve the specimen alone and rely solely on your own instincts
CONTROLS
- Movement: WASD
- Interact: E
- Flashlight: F
- Sprint: Left Shift
- LMB: Use equipment
THIS IS A PROTOTYPE!
This is an early prototype exploring the potential for SPECIMEN to be a full game!
Take note I'm using the free tier for the servers which supports a maximum of 100 concurrent players.
The dream version of this game has:
- Loads of different gadgets to help capture the specimen: walkie-talkies, traps, decoys, etc.
- More opportunities for co-op gameplay, like buttons that need to be pressed across the station, and rescuing scientists cocooned by the SPECIMEN.
- Objects that you can collect around the space station, like batteries for your torch, or unique gadgets.
- Loads of space stations.
- A progression system that lets you buy more equipment after SPECIMEN excursions.
- Different SPECIMENS with different behaviors.
I’ve dedicated the past month to building this game, and while I’m excited about the progress, it’s still a work in progress. Expect a few rough edges and some jank, but I hope you enjoy what’s been created so far!

the most comedically scary game ive ever played 10/10 haha
Yo this was epic to watch! Loving those sound fx and edits lol. Had a blast watching you guys have fun, glad you liked the comedy <3.
Edit: Seems like that 2nd last case you tried to suck glitched because I didn't even see him runaway when it said he escaped.
doesn't seem to work? are the servers down? i cant join a room, it says "room not found"
I had a problem where I was playing with a friend overseas and it wouldn’t find the room, but we used a VPN to have the same region and it worked.
Also make sure to click allow when windows asks about network.
Fun time with friends!
Hahah that speedrun at the end was classic, glad you guys had fun! It was really fun to watch.
I'm glad you noticed the white boards! To make it I just took pictures of my mini white board with my phone, then cropped it and used it as a texture.
Thank you!
had a great time playing this game with a buddy BigD
Yo this was such fun to watch! Thanks so much for playing, really glad you had fun together! I'm gonna add a sound to the pressure plate to make a bit more obvious.
No problem had a blast playing it overall a good game keep it up
Those are Black Mesa scientists, hope you're going to replace them eventually.
Yeah, that's true, I'll replace them if this goes further than a prototype.
Great with friends!
